Who’s that handsome and sort of dark looking character??
After riding 430 odd not-so-fun miles on the slab (I-90) to ‘just get there’, through constant punishing winds (think pillow fight – the wind vs. your head) that have kept the bike at what feels like a nearly 30 degree lean for much of the trip, I have finally made it to Minnesota, and a brief but much needed respite at the home of my buddy, Chris Baumgartner, in Minneapolis.
Yes, my time here has been short but so far, I can associate the following things with Minnesota:
1) Corn – lots of it.
2) Soybeans – lots of them. Suddenly reminded of Omnivore’s Dilemma by Michael Pollan. Read it. Dem’s good.
3) Things that smell like farm animal poop. Cool at first (hey, I’m in the country – cool!) followed by disgust after the 2nd, 3rd, and 151st gust of the vile stuff.
I’ve heard people say something about “10,000 lakes” but I think they’re lieing. I’ve only seen one. Aside from that, the people here seem pretty darn nice.
