Okay, where were we.. Oh, right. Portland. I left Portland 8 days ago and headed for the Oregon coast for another scenic ride to my next destination.
After enjoying more spectacular Pac. NW coastal scenery, I crossed the bridge from Astoria, OR into the Evergreen State – WA. By the way, any Goonies fans out there? I think it was filmed in Astoria. I was so excited to see the town that served as the backdrop for that amazing film. I found no rotund kids doing the truffle shuffle. Instead, I found a pretty run-down depressing looking place that I can assure you contains no pirate’s booty. If you haven’t seen Goonies, rent it immediately. But don’t go to Astoria.
I continued on up 101 and the WA coast. Just after taking this photo, I passed through the corresponding town of Humptulips, WA. As the laughter echoed through my helmet (yes, I’m a juvenile – and yes, it’s funny), wondering where former Humptulips residents tell friends they grew up (anyone see that Nicolas Cage skit on SNL? It’s pronounced “Ozweepay”.. Not Asswipe Johnson..), I was pulled over by the local authorities for speeding. And given a ticket for $113.
You win this time, Humptulips. You win..
