Surprise surprise. I didn’t sleep much last night. I finally pulled my self outta bed and went for a run to get the juices flowin – the last I’ll go on in SF for quite a while.. I hit the coastal trail, a path that runs from the old Sutro baths near Ocean Beach all the way to the Golden Gate Bridge. It’s a run I’ve come to love since I started crashing with my pals Jim and Marie out in the northwesternmost corner of SF about a month ago. It’s starts right out the front door and takes in some of the most beautiful views in San Francisco. Nothin’ but fog today but was still real purdy.
Since I’m all into this finality/nostalgia thing, I decided to head down to the beach and jump in the Pacific one last time. It was cold.. As I was making my way out of the surf, this woman ran by and yelled something about “!@#$Q%^%..WATER!” Not sure what she was trying to say, but she was smiling so I hope it was nice.
I packed up the rest of the gear onto the moto and said my goodbyes to Jim and Marie before they headed for the airport for yet another cross country work trip. That kid travels more than anyone I know. As he rolled away, I started thinking about how different our trips will be. What will take him about 5 hours today will take me about 6 weeks – starting now.. I snapped this photo of them in front of my the trusty steed (and new home for the next two months) as I was adding on the last of the stuff.
So, I’m off to my favorite spot in SF, Arizmendi Bakery (cool little co-op I’ve been going to for the last 5 years) in the Inner Sunset, to meet Brian Burling, a friend and fellow BMW moto-rider, to begin this little adventure. With any luck, we’ll make it to Arcata, CA tonight. Wish me luck. Fade into some Willie Nelson song..
